Heart Clinic
From time to time, usually around October of each year, the club hosts a Heart Clinic in the Sydney area which is open to Dobermanns as well as other breeds.
Dr Niek Beijerink DVM, PhD, EBVS European Veterinary Specialist in small animal cardiology attends and can perform a full cardiac workup including an echocardiogram with results available immediately and provides a certificate confirming the results.
An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. Veterinary cardiologists can "echo" a dog's heart to take measurements and view the heart's physical functioning in real time. Research has established threshold values for certain measurements past which the heart is considered outside of the normal range and/or indicative of DCM. They can also identify other cardiac issues such as murmurs, regurgitation, and mitral valve disease (MVD). In some cases an arrhythmia is also visible during an echocardiogram.
Keep watching the club’s Facebook page for information each year. We’ll endeavour to keep this page updated when the next Heart Clinic is scheduled. You can also reach out to let us know that you’re interested in the clinic and we’ll keep you posted.
